A few days ago, the 2008-2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards were held in Nashville, TN. Don’t let the simple logo fool you; as I mentioned in a previous post, these are the biggest independent music awards on the planet, with over half a million (!) song entries and tens of thousands of albums.

Jill and I received a combined nine nominations for this year’s awards, and the final results are now in:

* “Depth Charge” from my album Antigravity won Best Techno Song! This makes me the two-time Techno champion, having won this category in the 2006 JPF Awards with “Tomorrow” from Impulse Prime. Worth noting: “Depth Charge” is also the #1 Techno song of all time on Garageband.

* Antigravity itself came in 2nd for Best Techno Album – so close!

* “Gregorian Dreams” (The World Circuit) nabbed 5th in Best Ambient Song, a very pleasant and total surprise.

* “Throwdown” from Antigravity took 6th for Best Electronica Song. I thought I would have done better here, but hey, still awesome.

* Jill’s album Origins won 2nd place for Best New Age Album. For a debut release, not bad at all!

* “Deliverance of the Heart” (Origins), a collaboration between Jill and myself, won 5th for Best New Age Song.

* Our three other song nominations didn’t place, but even getting nominated is a big deal, so we’re still happy.

The JPF Awards are such a massive volunteer undertaking that it’s hard to believe the organization can pull it off without “selling out” to a major media company, yet even in the latest, biggest iteration, they have still maintained their independent standing. So, kudos to Brian Austin Whitney and the whole community of Just Plain Folks! You can count on me being in the next awards, with even more music then. :)
