Along with my original music composition and remixing, I spend a lot of time developing and distributing sample libraries via Impact Soundworks. These virtual instruments are intended to be affordable and very useful to composers, producers, professionals and hobbyists of all kinds; earlier this year, I designed a library called “Shreddage”, a $49 electric guitar instrument oriented toward rock & metal rhythm playing. It was a smash success, and received rave reviews to boot.

Since then, I’ve been working on a number of other sample library projects. One of them is Koto Nation: Classical Instruments of Japan. As the title suggests, we sampled koto, shamisen and bass koto in great depth, with numerous articulations, round robins, velocities and two mic positions, plus special FX patches. For the project we recorded Masayo Ishigure, one of the foremost koto players in the world, who previously performed on the soundtrack of John Williams’ score for Memoirs of a Geisha. At $99 for over 8gb of samples, it’s the deepest library of its kind, and excellent if you’re interested in Japanese music!

Just a few days ago, composer and fellow ReMixer Jimmy “Big Giant Circles” Hinson and I released a library called Acoustic Revolutions Volume 1: Adult Contemporary Guitar Loops. This one was designed and recorded entirely by Jimmy, and it’s a pretty amazing collection of modern acoustic guitar phrases, strums, arpeggios and progressions.

For only $19, Acoustic Revolutions Volume 1 is a no-brainer – not to mention it’s compatible with any program, as it’s just a collection of WAV loops that can be dragged aqnd dropped into any sequencer or sampler. You can read more about it, listen to demos, and even download a free demo loop pack here:

http://impactsoundworks.com/products/instrumental/acoustic-revolutions-vol-1

Enjoy all the sounds!

A few months ago I had the pleasure of mastering an album for OC ReMixer Meteo Xavier, also known as 12 Followers. While I do mastering and production work frequently, it’s rare that I get to work on a project that I truly enjoy and get excited about. Espers, the debut album from 12 Followers, is one such project.

When I first started listening to the album, which I would best describe as ambient, instrumental electronica mixed with orchestral and world elements, I was immediately engrossed.

Each track is a different “world” with deep, evolving sonic textures but more importantly, interesting compositions. When I initially wrote a letter to Meteo about my thoughts on the album, I told him how a lot of the music called to mind scores from the Phantasy Star Online series, and he confirmed that video game soundtracks were indeed among many influences.

Espers is not the kind of album that you should drop track-by-track into an iPod. It is a meditative experience full of emotion. As I worked with Meteo for months on this project, I learned about his passion and vision for this music, and his unwillingness to put forth an album of anything but his best work. Few artists I’ve met have this level of dedication, and thus few have created music of this caliber.

You can pick up Espers at most any online music store, such as CD Baby, for only $5.99.
